ME Dubai Celebrates Women Creatives In Partnership With MIA Art Collection

ME Dubai, the only hotel in the Middle East to be fully designed both inside and out by Dame Zaha Hadid, has partnered with MIA Art Collection to bring a curated art exhibition to Dubai’s thriving artistic scene as part of its“Women Is Art” Collective. Curated by ME, this collective is an initiative partnering with cutting-edge female artists from across the globe to amplify their creative voices and bring ground-breaking contemporary culture into ME hotels worldwide.

The collective launched on International Women’s Day, March 8th 2021, with a digital video art showcase by Veronica Ruth Frias. Veronica uses fine arts as a platform to disrupt patriarchal narratives and empower the feminine. Recreating The Last Supper, designed by Leonardo da Vinci, the performance in the video substitutes male figures for women from diverse and cultural disciplines across Spain. It begins with a static scene mimicking the poses of Leonardo’s work, which gives way to movement and disorder caused by the entry of the daughters of those participants, breaking the silence and peace that reigned until that moment. The digital art is a reflection on the situation of women in today’s world and the recognition of women from the different artistic and cultural manifestations.

The collective will continue throughout Marchand April with the inauguration of “Sense of Women”, an exhibition by MIA Art Collection that seeks to highlight the creative work of the women artists in their work processes. Sculptures by renowned Spanish sculptress, Noemi Iglesias Barrio, who specializes in porcelain installations, will be presented in The Atriumas part of her ‘Quarantine’ collection. Quarantine is a ceramic installation that researches into how human emotions and affective bonds are established through social media in these times of spatial distancing. The installation features unique gas masks donned with intricate handmade work consisting of porcelain roses on the vents. She uses the technique of porcelain flowers to reflect the industrial job that was entirely performed by women throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century in European ceramic factories.

Several other artists will be part of this collective including, Aisha Al Ahmadi, a young Emirati artist whose work is often research based and centered around themes of identity politics, truth, and perception along with Ana Daganzo who explores a vision that focuses on the particularities of the eye as an instrument, and the phenomena caused by it.Mari Ito, Japanese painter shows in her paintings the nuclear issue that runs through her own history as a Japanese woman, such as the events that occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, up to the triple disaster of Fukushima.

ME Dubai, the only hotel in the Middle East to be fully designed both inside and out by Dame Zaha Hadid, is a place to discover contemporary culture through the lens of ME’s bold, charismatic personality. The hotel positions itself at the forefront of a cultivated market space, targeting a culturally educated crowd with its considerate and elevated take on design, entertainment and F&B.
