Adding another accolade to its long list of honours, the culinary team at ‘Sofitel Dubai The Palm‘ has been awarded at the inaugural Dubai Green Star 2022 for its commitment to sustainability.
Held in a ceremony last 15 February 2022 to recognise the most sustainable and environmentally conscious F&B establishments, the awards are part of the ‘Sustainable UAE Eating’ campaign, which pledges to take action in supporting mindful eating in the country and reducing the environmental impact of our kitchens. To join the campaign, interested chefs based in the UAE had to sign a pledge to put the UAE on the world map by contributing towards sustainability and food security, particularly during Expo 2020 and for the occasion of the nation‘s Golden Jubilee.
The awards’ selection committee chose chefs, restaurants, hotels and F&B organisations that are committed to sustainable practices in sourcing, cooking and serving food and to utilise ingredients that are locally produced. Due to this, the Awards are also supported by ‘Fresh on Table‘, a catalyst with the mission to promote farms in the UAE, and to assist the country‘s food security mission.
Currently, Sofitel Dubai The Palm have locally sourced items including fish, organic chicken and a selection of vegetables and hydroponic micro herbs on their menu at Manava and Moana restaurants. The hotel plans to implement the same practice at its other venues without reflecting a price increase to encourage the consumption of local and organic produce.
