The Box Appeal was launched in 2008 and is a month-long annual charity appeal organized by the Radisson Hotel Group. The charitable initiative successfully collected and distributed 9000 boxes of essential items to workers in the UAE. The Box Appeal initiative is a campaign that makes it easy for the local community to take part in; fill a box with a range of simple everyday items and drop it off at any Radisson Blu or Park Inn hotels in the UAE.
Residents fill the boxes with necessities, including T-shirt, cap, disposable razors, shaving cream, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, talcum powder, small hand towel, comb, antibacterial soap, and shampoo. Filling a box with 12 mandatory items doesn’t cost more than Dh50-Dh60 but the impact the boxes have is massive.
This year’s boxes where donated and distributed to construction workers and street laborers just before the long National Day Weekend. The Responsible Business team members of Radisson Hotel Group with the help from participating schools along with Dubai Municipality once again got together to distribute the first boxes. More than 9,000 boxes are being distributed across labour camps in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah in the next few weeks.
Tim Cordon, Area Senior Vice President, Middle East, Turkey and Africa said; “We are delighted to see another Box Appeal campaign come to a successful fruition with over 9,000 boxes collected this year. And we are very proud that the Box Appeal initiative has become a regular fixture in the local community calendar in the UAE for the past 12 years. Radisson Hotel Group is firmly committed to being a responsible business where our team members can live our signature Every Moment Matters through positive action and meaningful work”
