Take a journey to memories of the past through the latest collection by self-taught Emirati artist Badr Abbas displayed at Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown. Aptly called “Hobbies of Yesterday” the specially curated collection is available for a limited time only from January 7th to March 31st, 2022. Promising to take you back to your childhood, Badr’s unique style merges the rich cultural facets of the UAE with juxtaposed cubist art. His work perfectly balances his Emirati roots with modern impressions while drawing inspiration from art icons like Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and George Condo.
Revealed to the public in Dubai for the first time, the exhibition is free to view for Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown guests and visitors alike. Art enthusiasts looking for a more in-depth experience can also book a guided tour with the in-house Art Manager, Astrid Lesuisse. The guided tour includes a customised fully immersive art tour of the exhibition and the curated collections of the hotel followed by Lazy Breakfast or Afternoon Tea. Badr Abbas is a member of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, and each piece from the “Hobbies of Yesterday” collection feels like a time capsule on canvas. Drawing back memories of carefree days of Sci-Fi movies, comics, collectibles, and video games all the while honouring the rich heritage of the UAE. Badr has managed to capture traditional values brilliantly while weaving a tale of nostalgia with each stroke of his brush.
