TRYP by Wyndham Dubai is at the forefront of making vacations as eco-friendly as possible as holidaymakers increasingly look to minimize the impact their travels have on the environment.
‘LUVE (Love Your Vibrant Earth) by TRYP’, the hotel’s industry-leading eco-friendly programme, has successfully boosted the property’s green credentials by focusing on the principals of ‘reducing’, ‘reusing’ and ‘giving back’.
The 650-room hotel has introduced several green initiatives including replacing all plastic bottles with glass alternatives – saving hundreds of thousands of bottles from going into landfill every year, to using sustainable paper toweling manufactured from 100% locally recycled cardboard, introducing the ‘Soap for Hope’ initiative across the hotel and many more.
The hotel has more than halved the amount of water used in the hotel each day and also helped to create jobs in developing countries by following five simple but effective steps.
Five eco-friendly practices at TRYP by Wyndham Dubai:
Say goodbye to plastic – reuse and reduce waste!
A first for the region the hotel uses Waterlogic water dispenses, which work by connecting technologically advanced filtration units to the hotel’s main water supply. The water filtration system removes chlorine and contaminants from mains waters and has also eliminated the use of plastic bottles. The switch to glass bottles, which are cleaned and refilled in-house, means the hotel has reduced the amount of plastic waste that is sent to landfill by over 306,000 bottles per year.
Recycle, recycle, recycle!
The hotel’s commitment to sustainability extends to the use of recycled materials, such as paper towels and tissues being manufactured from 100% locally recycled cardboard. An initiative set up exclusively for the hotel by a local supplier, this initiative is another first for the region’s hotel industry. The hotel also offers bathroom amenities that are made from 86% organic ingredients that feature packaging made from 100% recyclable materials.
‘Soap for Hope’
The hotel’s participation in the ‘Soap for Hope’ initiative ensures that all used soap bars are collected and then sent to developing countries where they are reprocessed and compressed into new 500g bricks. Not only does this reduce unnecessary waste and prevent useable soap from being sent to landfill, it also creates jobs in developing countries and contributes to improving the standard of living in those countries.
Conserve water
TRYP by Wyndham Dubai’s sustainability goals have been achieved through installing water-saving showerheads across all bathrooms. This has helped reduce the amount of water consumed without impacting the quality of the guest experience. The eco-friendly initiative has cut water consumption by more than 50 per cent, from an average of 17 litres per minute to just 6.45 litres per minute. The hotel has also installed special flush tanks which help to save 528 gallons of water per day- an estimated 15,840 gallons per month. All 680 toilets in the hotel are fully equipped with water saving mechanisms that reduce water consumption and thus wastage.
Do Not Disturb
The ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs in each guest room are made entirely from recycled plastic. Prior to this, the signs were made from paper with up to 60% being disposed of each month due to wear and tear. This move to recycled plastic has helped to further reduce the hotel’s paper waste and it also means the hotel will not have to replace a single ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign.
